Local vineyard and cellar door D’Angelo Estate Vineyard was overwhelmed last night to be announced as a finalist for the inaugural 2014 Casey Cardinia Business Awards.
D’Angelo Estate has been recognised for their Hospitality and Tourism contribution to the City of Casey and Shire of Cardinia. The judges commented on the high standard of the business award submissions and mentioned the high calibre of all applicants which made choosing the finalists very difficult.
Benny D’Angelo was excited to be announced as a finalist again this year following his wins in this year’s Melbourne South East Business Awards in the Small Business and the Environmental Sustainability categories and 2013 Cardinia Business Awards in the Agriculture and Primary Industry category. “We are all very thrilled to be a finalist in the Hospitality and Tourism category as it highlights to us that we are going the right direction. D’Angelo Estate Vineyard is the place to experience a true wine-tasting, with a range of light meals and live music.”
The winners of the Casey Cardinia Business Awards 2014 will be announced at a Gala Dinner on Thursday 9th October. Guests at the dinner will be able to drink D’Angelo Wines after their success in winning the tender for the evening.
D’Angelo Estate was named as winners in the “Environmental & Sustainably” and “Small Business” Categories at this years 2014 South East Melbourne Business Awards.
The 2014 Melbourne’s South East (MSE) Business Awards is the premier business awards recognition program in the south east region of Melbourne. Melbourne’s South East region covers over one-third of Melbourne’s area and population and almost a quarter of Victoria’s jobs. The MSE received nominations from each of the 10 council’s Business Awards from businesses which has won their category. D’Angelo Estate won the 2013 Cardinia Business Award for Agriculture and Primary industry enabling our entering into the MSE Business Awards.
David Hodgett MP, Minister for Ports, Minister for Major Projects and Minister for Manufacturing presented Benny with the award for Small Award which was sponsored by the Victorian Government. The award for Environmental and Sustainability was sponsored by Metropolitan Waste Management Group.
D’Angelo Estate was the only business in the Shire of Cardinia to win any of the categories on the evening. Benny D’Angelo was overwhelmed with the results and thanked his family, staff and customers for their ongoing support of the business. He also hoped that “this would encourage council to approve plans for the proposed extension to car parking and a patron numbers allowing more people to experience what is on their doorstep.”
Benny & Sabrina D’Angelo were overwhelmed when D’Angelo Estate Vineyard won the Agriculture and Primary Industry award at Cardinia’s Business Awards on the 31st May.
The awards are judged on many facets of the business including points of difference offered, recent achievements, future plans, marketing, and commitment to environmental sustainable practices. D’Angelo Wines was also a finalist in the Environmental Sustainability category, which was a judge’s recommendation category
The judges commented that “D’Angelo Vineyard has an excellent handle on business management, well defined future plans, it is well marketed and has a range of wines and suppliers.” Frances Grigoriou, Shire of Cardinia business development officer, said that the judges were impressed with the level of passion they saw from the finalists.
Since Benny D’Angelo’s first vintage in 1998 of only 1 tonne (2 barrels), we have grown to crush 80 tonne of fruit this year. D’Angelo has also expanded their customer base to ensure a wide range of markets for the expanding range. A modest priced restaurant wine range has also been added due to industry and customer demand.
This win caps off a long line of accolades won by D’Angelo Estate. Benny D’Angelo said, “Our recent achievements including the Business Awards win, is proof to us that we are heading in the right direction. We listen to what our customers want and go out of our way to provide excellent service.”

He said, "It is a huge honour to be recognised by an industry leading publication for the passion I put into making all of my wines." Winestate described the 2010 D'Angelo Lady Chardonnay as, "A very interesting and well-made wine with wild and complex aromas leading to a soft palate with upfront weight of varietal fruit."
In addition to being named the Runner-Up Chardonnay 2012, the 2010 Lady Chardonnay will also feature of Winestate's Best of Victoria section in the Best of State - Australian Regional Tastings 2012 edition. The Annual Edition will be on sale from January 2013 and re-released in July 2013, providing D'Angelo Estate Vineyard with national and international exposure.
D’Angelo Wines is very pleased to announce that their 2010 Lady Chardonnay has been entered into the Winestate Australian and New Zealand Wine of the Year 2012 after receiving 4 ½ stars in a recent Yarra Valley and Southern Victoria Wine tasting.
D’Angelo Wines submitted nine wines to the Yarra Valley and Southern Victoria Tasting feature and were fortunate to receive 5 awards in total. All the wines awarded are grown on the D’Angelo Estate Vineyard in Officer, in the growth corridor of the south east.
4 ½ stars D’Angelo Lady Chardonnay 2010 -
A very interesting and well-made wine with wild and complex aromas leading to a soft palate with upfront oak, but well matched by very good weight of varietal fruit.
3 ½ stars D’Angelo Bens Shiraz 2010
Dark mocha nose and palate with a fruity lift. Very good sweet entry to the palate. Nice tannins
3 stars D’Angelo Il Berardino Reserve Pinot Noir 2010
A leaner, perfumed style with nice strawberry-like fruit and velvety texture in the mouth.
3 stars D’Angelo Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Plenty of character, not too assertive with fine acid and moderate complexity.
3 stars D’Angelo Two Rows Viognier 2010
Spicy, pear/peach aromatics with a floral lift and good volume of varietal flavours.
The 2010 Sab's Shiraz scored 16.50 at the 18th Visy 2012 Great Shiraz Challenge to take out a bronze medal. Sab's Shiraz outscored many wines that were in the $100.00 and over price range.
Great results at the 2012 Gippsland Wine Show.
Big ticket item was a Trophy for Best Chardonnay. This was the second year in a row that we have taken out a trophy our white wines. This was the seventh Gippsland Wine Show with entries from 34 wineries across the Gippsland region. The judging team comprised winemaker David Bicknell of Oakridge Estate (also chair of the Royal Melbourne Wine Show) well known Melbourne wine writer Matt Skinner and senior winemaker at Domain Chandon, Dan Buckle. In addition to the trophy, the 2011 Chardonnay also won a Gold Medal. Given how difficult the 2011 vintage was, this was a wonderful result. We also received Bronze Medals for the 2011 Pinot Grigio and the 2008 Late Disgorged Blanc de Noir.
